Treatment Options



Treatment for prostate cancer depends on the stage of the disease and the patient's age and overall health. Treatment options may include the following:

Medical treatment
  • Watchful waiting (also called active surveillance)
  • Hormone therapy (e.g., Viadur®)
  • Treatment for bone metastases

Radiation therapy

  • Brachytherapy (radioactive seed implantation)
  • External radiation treatment (XRT)

Surgical treatment

  • Cryosurgery (cryoablation)
  • High intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU)
  • Radical prostatectomy
  • Laparoscopic radical prostatectomy
  • Robotic laparoscopic radical prostatectomy
  • Lymphadenectomy
